Swim Instructor
YMCA Swim Instructors are responsible for providing a safe and fun learning environment for students ranging in age from 6 months to adulthood. Instructors may specialize in a particular age group or swim level based on their skill set. Instructors will deliver the YMCA swim lesson curriculum and adapt their instruction to meet the needs of diverse clients. Instructors will be scheduled for weekly group classes, and may be asked to deliver private swim lessons as well. Group lessons have 4 to 8 participants, while private swim lessons have 1 to 3 participants. Swim Instructors should demonstrate the values of the YMCA- honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility- in every aspect of their job.
EXPERIENCE
Applicants should be confident swimmers with the ability to demonstrate effective communication. It is preferred that applicants have six months to one year of recreation, childcare, instructor, coaching, or lifeguard experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
First Aid and CPR certification required (training provided on-site)
YMCA Swim Instructor Certification required (training provided on-site)
Lifeguard Certification (preferred)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Teaches aquatic skills
Follows prepared lesson plans
Maintains supervision of participants
Demonstrates exemplary customer service
Maintains teaching equipment
Completes and distributes student evaluations
Handles parent/ YMCA member complaints with patience and grace
Keeps pool deck and teaching space clean and presentable
Enforces safety standards
Follows emergency procedures
SALARY:
$11.00/hour - $13.00/hr
