We are so much more than a "gym and swim" and take pride in the top of the line classes we offer here at the Sherman Lake YMCA. We offer programs for every level, from the health seeker to the hardcore athlete, and strive to ensure our members find both overall health and wellness as well our four core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility in all of our programs.

Aquafit (formerly Water Aerobics): The class consists of an aerobic level workout followed by the use of resistance tools to tone and define muscles. Great low-impact workout.

BODYCOMBAT™ is the Les Mills program where you'll punch and kick your way to fitness, burning up to 740 calories along the way. This high-energy martial-arts-inspired workout is totally non-contact and there are no complex moves to master. A Les Mills instructor will challenge you to up the intensity and motivate you to make the most of every round. You'll release stress, have a blast and feel like a champ.

BODYBALANCE™ (formerly BODYFLOW)will improve your mind, body, and life and is ideal for anyone and everyone. During BODYFLOW, an inspired soundtrack plays as you bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves and embrace elements of Tai Chi and Pilates.

BODYPUMP™ Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. Instructors will coach you through scientifically proven moves and techniques pumping out encouragement, motivation, and great music!

Boxing & Kickboxing This class will incorporate realistic striking moves while working full body strength and conditioning. You do not need any previous experience to join this class. Fun, diverse, and dynamic but most importantly, this class is for everyone!

Combat+Strength Strength training and martial arts style cardio collide in this sweaty, full body workout! You'll burn calories and build cardio during the Combat portion and build strength in the upper body, lower body and core during the strength workout.

Fit Over 50 Gain more stamina! Designed to challenge your body to help maintain independence and functionality, Fit Over 50 includes cardio, balance, strength, and agility. The low-impact activities address a variety of abilities in a fun, social atmosphere.

Gentle Cardio Drumming Give your cardiovascular system some love and improve your coordination & agility through Gentle Cardio Drumming! No musical skills are needed as you drum away to the beat of world music and popular songs!

Gentle Strength & Stretch The class involves a variety of warm-up stretches and strength-building exercises, most of which can be done using the assistance of a chair. Light free weights and yoga straps are used to give you a full body workout.

Guided Meditation This guided meditation class is suitable for anyone who would like to learn and/or be part of a meditation group – whether you have never meditated or already have a regular meditation practice.  This class will focus on breath work and EFT Tapping (emotional freedom technique ) and mindfulness practices to calm the mind and body to reduce stress and anxiety.  

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) HIIT is short for High-Intensity Interval Training. This is an exercise regimen wherein a series of 10-15 exercises are performed through a cycle of short intense bursts of 25-30 seconds each, separated by brief rest periods of 10-15 seconds each. A typical class will consist of three (3) sets of these cycles and will last ½ hour. The exercise type and focus will be a blend designed to burn fat while at the same time increase agility, strength, stamina, and athletic performance. Some exercises will target specific muscle groups to build strength, while others will incorporate multiple muscle groups to help improve function and mobility. It is a great full-body workout and a good compliment to your strength training routine.

Pilates Joseph Pilates developed his mat work over 80 years ago.  Certified instructors follow the original method to train the body as an integrated whole.  Focus is on the core, lower body, and upper body strength as well as flexibility and posture. 

Ride & Roll group cycling and foam rolling class combines the best of cardiovascular training and muscular recovery. After a 30-minute cycling workout, participants will transition into the Markham Room for instructor-led myofascial release.

Spinning classes using StarTrac Spinning Bikes. These fun classes will burn calories, and tone muscles of the lower body. Instructors lead you through a visualized ride, and help you get the most out of your workout! 

Sunrise Yoga for everyBODY - Strengthen, lengthen, realign then off to work! Poses will be modified based on the ability of each participant. Meditation, breathing exercises, and restorative postures will help relieve stress, increase flexibility, and build strength. 

Total Body Workout a total body, multi-joint, functional movement workout that is worth getting up early for! It increases overall strength and flexibility and builds muscle in an easy-to-follow format.

TRX TRX is a workout system that leverages gravity and your body weight to perform exercises. Suspension training develops strength, balance, flexibility, and core stability.

Water Aerobics The class consists of an aerobic level workout followed by the use of resistance tools to tone and define muscles. Great low-impact workout.

Y Weights is the 30-minute strength class for everyone. Using various modes such as weights, tubes, Bosu balls, steps and mats, every muscle group is targeted in just 30 minutes. Options are available for the health seeker as well as the seasoned athlete and everything in between.

Yoga In this all-level class, postures are practiced to align, strengthen, and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques and meditation are also integrated. Expect an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement.

Yogafit A strong, active yoga workout that uses traditional yoga poses to tone and strengthen the whole body. It blends balance, strength, flexibility, and power in a fitness format.
