Overnight campers are the 'do-it-all' campers here at Sherman Lake YMCA Camp! The week will be filled with cabin adventures and self discovery allowing campers to learn new skills, laugh with friends old and new and have the absolute best summer ever.

Overnight campers scheduled activities will include canoeing, kayaking, SUP (stand up paddle board), high adventure courses like the Giant Swing and High Ropes, LARP (Live Action Role Play), swimming, climbing and art, just to name a few! Establishing goals, acquiring new skills, building confidence and strengthening friendships are some of the best components Sherman Lake YMCA Camp has to offer. 

Campers will decide with their cabin group each day which cabin adventures they want to participate in. This will provide the opportunity to experience activities such as ascending our rock wall, creating beautiful tie-dye, shooting their bow at archery, paddling a canoe or kayak with their friends, leaping off the Jungle Joe inflatable into Sherman Lake, and tons more! Evenings will feature unique activities, time with cabin mates, silly songs and goofy skits at campfire.

Overnight Camp - Two Week

NEW FOR SUMMER 2021! Join us for two-weeks of overnight camp at Sherman Lake YMCA. Campers will expand their Sherman Lake YMCA Camp experience with double the opportunities for adventure, camp activities and friendships.  

During the first week of camp, campers will follow a traditional overnight camp schedule. As they transition into the weekend and begin preparations for their off-site camping trip, they will enjoy special cabin adventures and experience the ultimate thrill of having full reign over camp activities!

Campers will rejoin overnight campers following their weekend adventures for more activities and a deeper dive into all that Sherman Lake YMCA Camp has to offer.

Overnight Horse Camp

Beginner Horse Camp is for the beginner horse enthusiast who wants to invest time bonding with their horse, other horse campers and staff. This camp focuses on basic horsemanship skills through barn chores and horse care, arena lessons, trail rides and a romping good time. Campers will have the opportunity to swim and participate in several camp activities of their choice. 

Pre-Requisite: Sherman Lake YMCA Horse Camp or a minimum of 4 consecutive horseback riding lessons.

Grades: Entering 3rd-7th
Sessions: 1 (June 20-25), 2 (June 27-July 2), and 5 (July 18-23)
 

Intermediate/Advanced Horse Camp Welcome to the Sherman Lake YMCA Equestrian Center! Here you will be immersed in the techniques of horsemanship mastery. Build on and advance your equestrian expertise during the week while you participate in horsemanship programs, barn chores, arena lessons, evening trail rides and more. Campers will have opportunities to swim and participate in other camp activities. 

Pre-requisite: Sherman Lake YMCA Overnight Beginner Horse Camp or a minimum of 7 consecutive horseback riding lessons.

Grades: Entering 6th-10th
Sessions: 4 (July 11-16) and 6 (July 25-30)

Build Your Own Computer

During this week long camp, students will start with a Piper Computer Kit - which they get to assemble into a small, working computer! We then jump into a world of computer code with a simple, yet versatile, programming language called Python which used by everyone from beginners to professionals. This camp is meant for students with little or no experience with programming; they will learn everything they need in the camp. With the Piper Computer Kit, students will not only get to make fun and simple programs on computers they built, but they will also get to make and test their code in Minecraft!

Gilmore Piano Camp

Immerse yourself in music at The Gilmore’s overnight camp for pianists of all experience levels. Enjoy a balance of rigorous study, hands-on music activities, and the outdoors. Overnight piano campers will start their day with performances and stories at the morning prelude. They will have a piano lesson, a practice hour, and up to two electives each day. Elective selections include Composition, Recording Arts, Jazz & Improvisation, Technique & Artistry, Piano Ensemble, and Waterfront/Camper’s Choice. Evenings feature recitals and camp time. 

An audition is required for all piano campers. Gilmore Scholarship auditions will be scheduled in February. Introduction to Leadership Program

Introduction to Leadership is designed for those campers who are ready to take the next step and test the waters of the Sherman Lake YMCA Leadership Development Program (LDP). Splitting time between the Leadership Program and Overnight Camp, campers will experience fun and challenging leadership adventures while continuing to participate in traditional camp activities. Campers will also participate on an off-site trip where they will work together as a team to set up camp, cook meals, plan their day and build lifelong friendships.

Taste of Camp

The magic begins here. Young campers have the opportunity to give overnight camp a try without the full week commitment.
