SHERMAN LAKE SCHOLARS
School Age Programs
General Information
Welcome to Sherman Lake Scholars at Sherman Lake YMCA, a place where school age students come to engage in camp and school activities with a small and consistent group of peers.
In response to the COVID-19 crisis and needs of our community, we have adapted our summer day camp program to allow students a safe and fun experience while also allowing time to plug into their local school’s online learning platform with a trusted Sherman Lake YMCA staff member to offer support. Children enrolled in virtual school options will spend half of their day working to complete their individual program requirements. The other half of the day will be spent in outdoor adventures.
For more information, please contact Karen Christopherson, Director of Character of Advancement, at karenc@ymcasl.org or 269.731.3022.

Ages
Elementary School (Kindergarten-5th grade)
Outdoor Play & Physical Activities
Outdoor play is more important now than ever! In addition to keeping kids physically active and healthy, spending time outdoors limits opportunities to spread airborne illness. Daily activities may include:
Climbing
Boating
Archery
And much more!
Meals
Students are invited to bring their own lunch. Sack lunches are available for students at a cost of $30/week and can be selected as an option during the registration process. Bagged lunches will be delivered fresh to students at lunchtime and will include a sandwich, drink, fruit and dessert.
Program Fees
It is our belief that no child should be turned away due to an inability to pay. With this in mind, the Sherman Lake YMCA is implementing a tiered pricing model for the Sherman Lake Scholars program. While the true cost of the program is $250 per week or $150 for three days, we know this may be cost prohibitive to many families. Families are asked to select a tier that best aligns with their financial abilities. There is no programmatic difference between tiers and children will not be separated by tier. The pricing model applies only to the cost of the program.
Tier Level | Price | Scholarship |
---|---|---|
Tier 1 | $250/week or $150/3-days | No scholarship assistance needed. |
Tier 2 | $200/week or $100/3-days | $50 scholarship assistance needed. |
Tier 3 | $150/week or $50/3-days | $100 scholarship assistance needed. |
Tier 4 | Additional scholarship needed beyond Tier 3 | Please contact our office at 269.731.3000 for additional support. |
Sherman Lake YMCA will work to raise funds to cover the scholarships provided. If you are interested in supporting our scholarship program, please contact Carrie Hybels at carrieh@ymcasl.org or 269.731.3039.
