Recreation Center Program Director

Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Membership Services Director, the Program Director will assist in planning, promoting, and implementing community services programs. The Program Director will assist in assessing and developing quality programs to enhance the lives of those in the communities surrounding Sherman Lake YMCA. The Program Director will assume responsibility for all membership programs, with a primary focus on the aquatics program. The ability to manage multiple tasks and work with all people is essential. Good interpersonal skills and a willingness to be a team player are important. The Program Director will carry out the responsibilities in accordance with established operating policies and procedures of the YMCA, ACA, and county, state, and federal agencies.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
These are the principal activities of the Program Director and are not meant to be all-inclusive. Other responsibilities, duties, and tasks can be assigned by the position’s supervisor and/or the CEO. It is the Program Director's responsibility that the following take place:

  • Responsible for the safety of all recreation center aquatic participants.

  • Research and develop community-driven aquatic programs that fit within the Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center mission, contribute income above their total expenses and are coordinated with the pool and facility’s entire programmatic usage.

  • Hire, schedule, and ensure pool lifeguard shift coverage and aquatic program staffing in the pool for hours when the recreation building pool is open.

  • Certify staff in CPR, first aid, and water-related certifications as needed.

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of activities and programs at Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center.

  • Manage the membership database with accuracy

  • Monitor all emergency systems that will ensure member and participant safety at all times.

  • Ensure safety and incident reports are completed and turned in immediately after occurrence to both the Membership Services Director and the Business Manager.

  • Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the recreation center including equipment and facilities.

  • Oversee daily operations of the recreation center as manager on duty when Member Services Director is away.

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year working as a certified lifeguard.

  • Current certification in Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration from ASHI or American Red Cross.

  • Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification.

  • YMCA Swim Lesson or American Red Cross WSI instructor certificates (preferred).

  • YMCA Lifeguard Instructor and ASHI BLS/FA/O2 Instructor certification OR a willingness to obtain Instructor-level certification within 60 days of hire (preferred).

  • Knowledge of computers and systems administration

  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills

  • Copies of certifications must be on file and it will be the individuals’ responsibility to update them before cards expire.
